Red Light Therapy

Why would I use it?
Coming to Arden Forest Wellness - two red light therapy beds; amongst the most powerful and configurable available

To have effective red light therapy, you need to both tune the 'red' light to the correct wavelengths (frequencies) and you need to ensure that you have enough intensity. Only then will you obtain the desired outcome.

Conditions include:

  • Chronic fatigue, ME.
  • Chronic pain, fibromyalgia and inflammation.
  • Eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, acne, scars and other signs of aging.
  • Wound healing.
  • Age-related hair loss, genetic hair loss.
  • Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).
  • Muscle recovery.

What is it?
The more clothing you remove, the better the results

Red light therapy is a non-invasive and non-thermal treatment that uses low-level red and near-infrared light to shake off nitric oxide (NO) molecules that can over time block the oxygen binding sites of your cells' mitochondria. The removal of the nitric oxide allows more oxygen to be taken up by the mitochondria thereby promoting cell healing and regeneration.

What happens during a red light therapy session?
Before your first session, we will conduct a 15-minute consultation so that we can establish the most appropriate initial protocol for you. This is important as our beds are not set up for one-size-fits-all sessions. Based upon your goals, we customise the intensity of individual wavelengths (frequencies) of light, all the way from blue to infrared.

Your red light therapy session is likely to be 10 minutes or less in length (the beds and canopies are amongst the most powerful available), but please allow at least 10 minutes before and after to dress and undress. If it is your first time taking red light therapy with us, please arrive 30 minutes before the start of your session.

Before you start, we will provide you with some eye protection goggles/glasses; please wear them at all times that the bed and canopy are on. You will then be left in peace to undress and enjoy the session. Yes, please do undress to whatever level you wish - the beds are thoroughly cleaned and sanitised immediately after each session and work best without the light-absorption of clothing.

Do I need to do anything before the session?
The only things that you need to do are:

  • There's nothing really to prepare for this session - come as you are!

What are the risks?
Red light therapy is very safe, but our beds and canopies are amongst the most powerful available, therefore there are a few risks which include: eye damage if goggles are not worn, and skin irritation or burns from overuse. We thoroughly go through these with you before your initial session.

Is it right for me?
The conditions for which red light therapy would not be recommended are:

  • Photosensitive conditions.
  • Medications that make your skin sensitive to sunlight (such as antibiotics or retinoids).
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Epilepsy.
  • Photosensitive lupus.
  • Hyperthyroidism or other thyroid disorders.
  • Recent burn.
  • Fever.
  • Active skin cancer.
A more comprehensive set of contraindications will be provided during your initial session.
