Infrared Sauna

Why would I use it?
Our fabulous five-person Sunlighen mPulse Empower smart infrared sauna
Our fabulous five-person Sunlighen mPulse Empower smart infrared sauna
As an exercise mimetic (experiencing some of the results of exercise without actually exercising) our 5-person infrared sauna has no match.

As a place to warm up and relax after the chill of a whole-body cryotherapy session, it's peerless.

Conditions include:

  • Stress relief.
  • Hypertension, heart failure, atherosclerosis and vascular endothelial dysfunction.
  • Chronic fatigue syndromes e.g. ME and glandular fever.
  • Improved circulation and heart health.
  • Insomnia.
  • Dementia and Alzheimer's disease.
  • Arthritis.

What is it?

The large five-person sauna is ideal for stretching out
Unlike traditional, old-school Nordic saunas that heat the air, infrared saunas use radiant heat from special infrared emitters to warm your body directly. The infrared light penetrates deeply into the body's tissues offering many more benefits than simple heating of the skin. An infrared sauna session is gentler and far more tolerable that a traditional sauna.

What happens during an infrared sauna session?
The fabulous Sunlighten mPulse Empower
The fabulous Sunlighten mPulse Empower
We normally provide the sauna as part of whole-body cryotherapy session, but we can provide sauna-only sessions if you'd prefer - please speak to us about this.

The best way to enjoy the session is to don swimwear or very light gym wear.

Before your first session, we will show you how to use the sauna's in-built wellness programme settings. After that, you will be left to relax.

Within minutes, your body's natural response to the infrared will begin with small beads of sweat appearing on your skin. Your blood vessels will widen increasing the blood flow as your heart rate gradually increases, thereby mimicking exercise!

Do I need to do anything before the session?
You will probably have just completed a whole-body cryotherapy session, so you should be ready to go straight in. Please do not take mobile phones or tablet PCs into the sauna - just take yourself.

What are the risks?
Infrared saunas are very safe, but there are some dangers that primarily involve overheating and dehydration that could lead to dizziness or fainting, especially for older adults, and those on certain medications (beta-blockers, diuretics). Other risks include blood pressure drops, skin irritation, and potential high electromagnetic field (EMF) exposure, though benefits usually outweigh the risks.

Is it right for me?
The conditions for which sessions in an infrared sauna would not be recommended are:

  • Unstable coronary artery disease.
  • Ischemic heart failure.
  • Orthostatic hypotension (a medical condition wherein a person's blood pressure drops when they stand from sitting).
  • Heart valve disease.
  • Heat intolerant conditions e.g. multiple sclerosis
  • Whilst in early pregnancy.
  • Under the effects of alcohol.
A more comprehensive set of contraindications will be provided during your initial session.
